What are your thoughts on this? Oh, and it would be nice if it lasted a few years (my experience with Chromebooks at the school where I work is that they frequently crash after a few years). They’ve used both laptops and Chromebooks, but we’re not sure which is the better option: laptop or Chromebook. We need something that is relatively light, fits in a backpack, isn’t too expensive (we don’t want them to be concerned), and can be used for the purposes listed above. They primarily use a device for schoolwork (for example, Google Docs), web browsing, Netflix, and YouTube. We’re looking for laptops for our 13 and 15-year-old children.
A Chromebook would be ideal for those applications. School laptops don’t have to be prohibitively expensive.
You’ll have to look at more expensive (over $500) – full-fledged – laptops if you want something that lasts longer. I’d avoid the entry-level Celeron processors because they’ll be too slow and won’t last as long as you’d like.
On the other hand, if you can get something for $250-$300, you can afford to replace them in two or three years with another entry-level laptop, and that’s the route I’d take – especially if you have kids carrying them to and from school!
The switch is going to be a nightmare… AND I’d like a bigger screen!!! ex-accountant… Many years ago, I used to use… The new LG is nice, but 1.3 GHz??? I’m a 73-year-old woman who owns an Apple IPad Pro 12.9… Please leave comments…I enjoy reading your reviews. So, I’m curious if. Apple has become prohibitively expensive for my occasional use… What do you mean, slow??? If you’re considering switching from Apple to Windows, here’s what you should know. I do a lot of research, emails, read the news, watch my favorite shows, and I’m really interested in anthropology…ancient peoples…
Hi Bev, any of those laptops will suffice for light use. Without getting too technical, the LG laptop with the 1.3 GHz i7-1065 performed similarly to the Ipad Pro 12.9 in benchmark tests.

I’m glad you found our best laptops review useful!
Many laptops are grossly overpriced, particularly those made by Lenovo and Huawei, which charge exorbitant prices and then offer significant discounts or lower hardware in order to sell and maximize profits. To put it another way, they can keep their products until they find a CEO who isn’t looking for another obscene bonus for coming up with these schemes. Anyone who spends $4000 to $5,000 or more on a computer is as stupid as a sack of rocks, especially when they come with a one-year warranty!
Which laptop brand and price range would you recommend?
