Which Dell XPS Models Numbers are Latest 2020?

Before we share details about the new models, there are Intel 10th Gen Dell XPS models available that are actually from last year.

So, be careful about the model numbers when buying the Dell XPS. They are still selling some models which are 2-3 years old.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (9310) Launched With Intel 11th Gen Tiger Lake Processors (Not Yet available in India)

Dell has refreshed the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 model with the new Intel Tiger Lake 11th Gen processors.

The company will likely refresh the Dell XPS 13 and the XPS 15 with the new Tiger lake processors as there is no point selling them with the 10th Gen Intel processors.

Dell launched the new Dell XPS 13 and 15 less than two months back in India and I am sure in the next 2-3 months a refresh is coming to these notebooks as well.

The XPS 13 9310 2-in-1 was not launched in India but is available for purchase in several other countries.

So What’s new with the XPS 13 9310 2-in-1?

The Ram is non-expandable and can be configured from 8 GB to 32 GB and comes with a 4267 MHz clock speed. It is one of the fastest rams we have seen on any laptop.

You can opt for NVMe SSD storage starting from 256 GB to 1 TB depending on your requirements.

The laptop comes with a 16:10, 13.4-inch display with either FHD or UHD panel offering a max 500 nits brightness and 100% sRGB color gamut.

Furthermore, it comes with WIFI 6, Thunderbolt 4, Bluetooth 5.1, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and 51 WHr battery capacity.

The laptop will go on sale starting 30th September in the US and will be available for a starting price of $1249.9.

As we know that the Dell XPS 13 is the best Windows Ultra-book that we can purchase and it competes with the likes of HP Spectre, Macbook Pro M1, and HP ProBook

However, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is still not launched in India.

Specification for Dell XPS 13:

The 13.4-inch non-touchscreen laptop comes with an FHD (1920*1200 pixels) display that moves up to 4K (Ultra HD) resolution. The virtually borderless infinity-edge display has a taller 16:10 aspect ratio, superb 500 nits of brightness, and 100% sRGB color gamut. It supports Dolby Vision.

It packs a 52Wh battery that claims to have 15 hours of lifespan. The keyboard is backlit chiclet with a fingerprint scanner. It handles Dual 2.5W speakers supported by Tunes and has an improved webcam.

The non-touch XPS 13 model weighs 1.2 kg and measures a dimension of 295.7 * 198.7 * 14.8 mm.

Price and Availability:

It offers two color options with Platinum Silver with Black Carbon Fiber palm rest and Frost with arctic white woven glass fiber palm rest. The i5 variant is available from Amazon India and selected Dell exclusive stores.

Dell XPS 13 9310 starts with INR 1,55,000 for the Core-i5-1135G7 model whereas the higher Core i7 version is available for Rs. 215,000.

It is stupidly high. Dell seems crazy to offer these at such a higher premium. Looking at Apple MacBook Air M1 available for nearly half the price, it is hard to recommend these unless you don’t want to use the OSX.

For Windows users, this is the Cadillac of laptops and if money is not the consideration these are pretty good when it comes to doing work.

Latest Dell XPS Series 2020 – What’s New

Dell has sought to make some major changes to its XPS series of laptops. The computer giant has decided to expand its notebook portfolio by launching the most awaited XPS 13, XPS 15, and XPS 17. This year we have got an all-new Dell XPS 17 which was not there until last year.

All the three latest versions of Dell XPS 13, Dell XPS 15, and Dell XPS 17 provide striking bezel-less displays with 4k resolution thus making them outstanding choices for those who rely on solid tasks like spreadsheets, coding, videography, graphic design, and photography, among others.

With the updates in design, Dell has decided to opt for USB-C and 16:10 displays across its key XPS laptops. The leading company has sought to abandon the legacy ports.

Dell XPS laptops are also available in the 2-in-1 design but the refresh for 2020 is yet to happen for the line-up.

So if you are planning to buy a premium laptop in the days to come but grappling with some confusion about which one to buy, here is some insight at what each XPS laptop may offer you. It will help you decide which XPS laptop will meet your entire requirement precisely:

Dell XPS 13 (9300) 2020 Model

Dell XPS 13 has emerged as one of the most portable laptops. It weighs barely 2.8 pounds (1.2 Kg)for the non-touch version.

The battery life of XPS 13 can last for up to 18 hours, as per Dell. For practical day to day use we can expect it to last over 12 hours with a mixed workload.  The laptop comes with a 52 Whr battery and has a 45 Watts Charger for quick charging using USB Type C port.

The highlight of the Dell XPS 13 is its incredibly compact design that allows fitting a 13-inch screen in a body that can usually accommodate an 11-inch display. Dell achieves this with very thin bezels on all sides.

The Windows 10 laptop comes with a 13.40-inch display and has up to  UHD+( 3,840 x 2,400 pixels) resolution with peak 500 nits maximum brightness and has a 91.5% screen to body ratio.

When it comes to its performance, it is packed with Intel 10thGen Ice Lake processor and Iris Plus graphics.

According to reports, it is expected to fulfill most of the requirements of users.  It has been backed by a Core i5 processor along with 8GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the laptop packs 512 GB of SSD storage.

The graphics of Dell XPS 13 have been powered by Intel Integrated Intel UHD Graphics. Also, there is an Intel Core i7 model that comes with Intel Iris Plus graphics.

There is no dedicated GPU from Nvidia on the 13 Inch model and it is strictly for office or entertainment use. You can run photoshop or few lightweight applications but it is no match for the 15-inch model.

It offers 3 USB ports (2xUSB 3.0), Multi Card Slot ports, and HDMI Port.

For connectivity options, it includes Wi-Fi 6 802.11 ac and Bluetooth 5.1. The laptop is quite travel-friendly. It has become an ideal choice if you desire something that can be easily held in a bag while you are traveling.

Price in the US – The base model of the Dell XPS 13 is available for $999 in the US and comes with an Intel Core i3 1005G1 processor (not launched in India), 8 GB of Ram and 256 GB of SSD storage space. Also, there is an Intel Core i5 model that you can buy for $1049 and which I think is a better deal than going with a Core i3.

Next, there are two Core i7 Models that come with the 10th Gen 1065G7 processor, 16 GB of Ram, and up to 2 TB of SSD starting at $1399. The cheaper models have FHD display whereas the higher models get a 4K display. Of course, you can customize the configuration as per your preferences.

Summary – Comparison Dell XPS 13 Vs XPS 15 Vs XPS 17

Wish List: Dell XPS Powered By Ryzen 4000

This year it is the first time, I have seen in the last 20 years that we have a better laptop processor from AMD in comparison to Intel.

If there is a flaw in the new Dell XPS laptops it is the missing AMD processors. Had Dell used AMD Ryzen 4000 series they could have made a machine that would offer higher multi-core performance, better battery life, and less heating.

Considering that there will be several models from other manufacturers that will use these processors – the Dell XPS may not seem attractive from a performance perspective. For instance, the new Asus Zephyrus G14 offers incredible performance using the Ryzen 4800 HS.

For Dell, there may be contracts with Intel to use their processors. Let’s hope that they are able to use a Ryzen processor in the near future and offer a faster, quieter, and cooler machine.
