Best Laptop Under $300 – Top Pick

1. Lenovo Chromebook C330 11.6-inch 2-in-1 Convertible Chromebook

Lenovo Chromebook C330 2-in-1 Convertible 11.6-inch

This isn’t a criticism; rather, it’s a reference to Chromebooks’ headache-free experience when compared to other laptops. The Chromebook C330 is simple to set up, requiring only that you sign into your Google account and select a WiFi network. ChromeOS is a joy to use because of its smart, intuitive nature. The Lenovo Chromebook C330 has been dubbed the “most awesomely boring device you’ll ever use.” A Chromebook is the right choice for those who work from home and don’t want to spend a lot of money on a laptop that can handle basic office tasks. Because the laptop runs on Chrome OS and is part of the Google ecosystem, you’ll need internet access at all times. In comparison, Microsoft and Apple laptops require more effort to set up.

When it comes to media consumption, this makes for a pleasurable experience. The laptop has a sturdy plastic body that flexes little under pressure, and it is small and light, weighing only 2.64 pounds. Low-cost TN panels are common in this price range, but while the 1366 x 768 resolution is low, it does come with an excellent IPS panel. If it wasn’t clear from the image, the laptop can also be used as a tablet or a tent, and the touchscreen is responsive to touch. The brightness is a little low (200 nits), which can cause issues in bright environments like direct sunlight outdoors or well-lit interior areas.

The eMMC storage is also slow, similar to that of a mechanical hard drive. Although the 64GB of storage is limited, you can supplement it with Google Drive if you need more. You’ll be able to play HD videos and view your photos with ease thanks to the PowerVR SGX543 GPU. The MediaTek MT8173C SoC is a low-end processor, but when combined with 4GB of RAM, it can easily handle tasks like document management, general office work, and web browsing.

It has an SD card reader, USB 3.0 Type-A and Type-C ports, and an HDMI port for connectivity. According to Lenovo, it has an excellent battery life of around 10 hours, which appears to be largely consistent with user reviews. The keyboard provides a decent experience that is comparable to most laptop keyboards, albeit with a slightly cheap feel.

Pros

  • Ease of use
  • Durable design
  • Excellent battery life
  • Good display

Cons

  • Display lacks brightness

Specs

  • 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixels
    (IPS)
  • Chrome OS
  • 10 hours battery life
  • 2.64 lbs

Summary & Score

Many reviewers praised its long-lasting design and dependable performance for basic tasks. However, while the display has excellent viewing angles, it is dimly lit. The Lenovo Chromebook C330 2-in-1 Convertible 11.6-inch has an IPS display, which is uncommon for a laptop at this price point.

Best Laptop Under $300 14-Inch – Top Pick

2. HP Chromebook 11a-na0021nr 11.6-inch

Lenovo Chromebook C330 2-in-1 Convertible 11.6-inch

With the HP Chromebook 11a-na0021nr, HP is clearly attempting to fill a market need for a brand new, dependable, and ultra-portable budget Chromebook that won’t break the bank. Despite the fact that Chromebooks have only been available in limited quantities in recent years, customer demand has resulted in many older Chromebooks being resold as refurbished years later.

A stylish and ultra-thin design weighing only 2.36 pounds, excellent battery life of over 10 hours in use, and great connectivity options including a Wi-Fi 5 wireless adapter and USB Type-C port are just a few of the features of this Chromebook. It also has an HP True Vision 720p HD camera with integrated dual array digital microphones and is said to have above-average audio quality thanks to dual speakers. It also comes with a much-needed microSD media card reader for expanding storage capacity.

Advanced applications will struggle, and the 4GB of RAM included will limit multitasking. It has an octa-core MediaTek MT8183 processor with integrated MediaTek ARM Mali-G72 graphics, which is typically found in Android tablets. With only 32GB of storage space out of the box, space may be an issue. A microSD card can be used to expand storage for media enthusiasts or those who need a lot of apps. However, if you plan on playing games or using advanced applications, don’t get your hopes up because the components are designed for power efficiency and portability.

Lenovo Chromebook C330 2-in-1 Convertible 11.6-inch

Fortunately, in 2020, this will include versions of the majority of popular applications, including Microsoft Office, so even novice users should be fine. The disadvantage is that Windows-only applications will not run, and you can only use apps from the Chrome OS store. Despite its flaws, the HP Chromebook 11a-na0021nr benefits from the streamlined Chrome OS app ecosystem, which makes it much easier to set up and use than Windows laptops.

If portability and style are more important to you than raw power, the HP Chromebook 11a is a great option to consider over similarly priced refurbished Chromebook models from years ago or Windows-based laptops that lack the portability and convenience of a Chromebook.

Pros

  • Attractive design
  • Lightweight build
  • Excellent battery life
  • Easy to use Chrome OS operating system
  • Low price

Cons

  • Very limited hard drive space (SD card recommended)
  • Advanced applications or any Windows applications are not recommended.
  • Can only use apps from Chrome store

Specs

  • MediaTek MT8183 2Ghz [View Benchmarks]
  • ARM Mali-G72

Summary & Score

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly mobile laptop, the 2020 Chromebook is a good option, combining a sleek design with long battery life for a stylish portable laptop on the go. Advanced users who want to use Windows apps or advanced applications should look elsewhere.

3. Lenovo Chromebook S330 81JW0000US 14-Inch

Lenovo Chromebook C330 2-in-1 Convertible 11.6-inch

Despite a few flaws, the S330 provides a solid laptop experience for everyday tasks and applications. Those with limited computer knowledge who may find Windows frustrating will benefit from Google’s simple and easy-to-use Chrome OS operating system, which is available on all Chromebooks. The Lenovo Chromebook S330 81JW0000US is a popular Chromebook for budget-conscious users who need a basic laptop for everyday tasks.

This level of hardware is only suitable for basic applications like document editing and web browsing, and any more advanced tasks will be difficult to complete. Another nice feature to consider is Google’s free 100GB of cloud storage on Google Drive. The included storage space is only 64GB, which may be insufficient for many users who want to store a large number of apps or large media files on their laptop. The MediaTek MT8173C processor is paired with 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM in the S330. Fortunately, a microSD card can be used to expand storage space.

Lenovo S330 Chromebook review

For some users, the fact that this Chromebook is relatively plain in comparison to competing Chromebooks from Samsung and other brands, which are slightly more expensive, may be a drawback. The laptop also has the solid build quality that Lenovo is known for, as well as a well-designed keyboard and trackpad that are both comfortable to use. With a 10-hour battery life, it outlasts competing Windows laptops, and its 3.3-pound weight makes it ideal for travel or everyday use.

The 14-inch screen size is generous for the price, but unfortunately, that’s where the positives on the display front end end – many reviewers described the S330’s display as mediocre, describing it as dim and washed out when compared to screens on many competing models.

Overall, if you value dependability and a solid-feeling laptop and can live with the S330’s average display, it’s an excellent, easy-to-use mobile laptop that will get the job done for a low price.

Pros

  • Good build quality
  • Nice keyboard trackpad
  • Chrome OS is a simple to use and set up operating system.
  • Portable and lightweight

Cons

  • Medicore display quality
  • Limited performance for advanced apps
  • No Windows only apps

Specs

  • MediaTek MT8127 2.1GHz [View Benchmarks]
  • PowerVR GX6250
  • 4GB LPDDR3 RAM
  • 64GB
    SSD
  • 14 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels
    (TN)
  • Chrome OS
  • 10 hours battery life

Summary & Score

Despite some compromises that may turn off advanced users, the S330’s solid build quality and excellent keyboard make it an excellent mobile laptop for basic tasks and applications.

4. 11.6-inch Acer Chromebook Spin 311 CP311-2H-C679

Lenovo Chromebook C330 2-in-1 Convertible 11.6-inch

Although it can only run Chrome store apps and its performance isn’t up to par for more advanced apps or gaming, the Spin 311 makes up for it with its premium-like build quality and features. The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 CP311-2H-C679 is one of the best Chromebooks of 2020, thanks to a combination of premium design and hardware finishes, as well as a super handy 2-in-1 module that lets you use the Spin as a powerful tablet or a laptop.

Another major plus is its high-quality screen, which has excellent viewing angles and is usually only found on laptops costing twice as much as this one, though some experts have criticized it for being dim when compared to competitors. Of course, the screen is a huge plus because it’s not only attractive, but it’s also a highly responsive touchscreen that can be used in both laptop and tablet mode. The Chromebook Spin 311 is fairly chunky for a 2-in-1 Chromebook, weighing 4.2 pounds and measuring 0.79 inches thick, but this undoubtedly contributes to its high quality and reliable feel. With a 10-hour battery life, you’ll be able to get through the day on a single charge without breaking a sweat.

Acer Chromebook Spin 311 Unboxing and First Look

For those who want to download a lot of media or install a lot of apps, storage space will be an issue, but thankfully, Acer has included a microSD slot that can be used to expand the available storage space by purchasing an additional memory card. It’s also worth noting that, unlike previous versions, the Acer Chromebook Spin 311 lacks stylus support, despite having a responsive touchscreen that would have been ideal for this. Being a Chromebook, it goes without saying that Windows-only apps aren’t an option. Despite its impressive feature set, power users may be disappointed by the Intel Celeron N4020’s 4GB of RAM, which provides adequate performance for most apps but struggles with gaming and heavy multitasking.

The Spin 311 is ideal for students or anyone looking for a portable netbook style laptop for daily use around the house or on the go, thanks to its ease of use and streamlined Chromebook experience. If you’re looking for a solid laptop but also want to use it as a high-performance tablet, the Acer Chromebook Spin 311 CP311-2H-C679 kills two birds with one stone by being a capable laptop that can also be used as a tablet.

Pros

  • Sturdy build quality
  • Good viewing angles
  • Lengthy battery life
  • Responsive touchscreen

Cons

  • Limited performance for advanced apps
  • Limited storage space out the box
  • No stylus support
  • No Windows only apps (Chrome store only)

Specs

  • 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixels
  • Chrome OS
  • 10 hours battery life
  • 4.2 lbs

Summary & Score

The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 CP311-2H-C679 is an extremely attractive laptop in its price range, and one of the top Chromebooks to beat in 2020, thanks to a sturdy premium build, long battery life, and a high-quality responsive touchscreen display.

Lenovo Chromebook C330 2-in-1 Convertible 11.6-inch

The ASUS VivoBook L203MA-DS04 is an ultraportable netbook-style laptop that has topped bestseller lists thanks to its low price and attractive design, filling a gap in the laptop market that was previously unfilled.

The performance should be adequate for most users at school or at work, though power users who enjoy multitasking and advanced apps may be disappointed. The L203MA-DS04’s portability makes it an extremely powerful productivity tool for those who move around a lot and need a portable workstation on the go, even if it struggles with advanced tasks as a full-time work machine.

The VivoBook is slightly heavier than most tablets, but it is far more functional and nearly as portable, making it a serious competitor for your on-the-go tablet or even smartphone. It was praised for its appealing design, which makes the L203MA-DS04 easy to use and transport thanks to its light weight of only 2.2 lbs.

Some reviewers complained about the touchpad being unresponsive, and the limited 64GB of storage will almost certainly require expansion via SD card or external hard drive.

14.-inch Acer Aspire 1 A114-31-C4HH

Acer Aspire 1 A114-31-C4HH laptop While this may appear to be a budget-friendly dream come true, there are some disadvantages. The Acer Aspire 1 A114-31-C4HH 14-inch laptop features a 1920 x 1080 display and a solid-state drive (SSD). The screen is Full-HD, but many users have complained that it is washed out and has poor viewing angles. It’s difficult to find non-refurbished laptops under $300 with Full-HD displays.

Some people have pointed out that the speakers aren’t very good, so don’t expect much in terms of sound. Furthermore, the fast SSD is a great addition for boot times and application loading times, but with only 32GB of storage, you won’t be able to store much. It has a good range of ports, including an HDMI port, an SD card reader, a USB 3.0 port, and two USB 2.0 ports, as well as the standard headphone and power jacks. It’s light, weighing only 3.64 pounds, and comes with a chiclet-style keyboard and an average-at-best trackpad, according to one user. It has an Intel Celeron N3450 processor and 4GB of RAM, and it feels more responsive than other laptops in this price range that have older mechanical hard drives rather than SSDs. Because it comes with Windows 10, the Acer Aspire 1 A114-31-C4HH is ideal for users looking for a Chromebook-like Windows machine.

Pros

  • Fast SSD
  • All-day battery life
  • Decent performance for price
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • A mere 32GB of storage space
  • TN display

  • Average trackpad

9. Acer Chromebook CB3-431-C5FM 14-inch

Acer Chromebook CB3-431-C5FM 14-inch
The all-aluminum chassis of the Acer Chromebook 14 gives it a look and feel that belies its low price. This distinguishes it from the competition, and despite the metal design, it is still light enough to carry around. Its display is sharp and accurately reproduces colors, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p.

It’s not bad, but it wears you out more quickly than other keyboards. It’s not bright enough for comfortable outdoor use, and the color palette is mediocre at best, but that’s understandable given the price. When it comes to input devices, the keyboard has good feedback and is well spaced out, but we would have preferred more travel.

This might be a good thing, given that you should be studying instead of playing video games. The touchpad, on the other hand, is smooth, accurate, and registers multi-touch gestures correctly. Unfortunately, only light gaming will be tolerated by the integrated graphics. The Chromebook’s Intel Celeron processors are also designed to be as energy efficient as possible, resulting in a 10-hour battery life that will last through any school day. Office apps run smoothly, and there is no noticeable lag when multitasking. Acer installed an Intel Celeron N3160 processor and 4GB of low-power RAM.

Pros

  • Premium metal design
  • Sturdy build
  • Full-HD screen
  • Long battery life
  • Great speakers
  • Solid performance

Cons

  • Shallow keyboard
  • Dim light
  • Underpowered processor
  • No SD card slot

Lenovo IdeaPad 80TJ001QUK-AG 15.6-inch

Lenovo IdeaPad 80TJ001QUK-AG 15.6-inch laptop The Lenovo IdeaPad 80TJ001QUK-AG 15.6-inch laptop is a good choice if you’re looking for a budget-friendly laptop that can handle your daily tasks. While the numerous complaints about its build quality and the small shift key are concerning, expecting a build quality comparable to that of high-end laptops with high price tags is simply unrealistic, especially if you want a laptop that performs as well.

Because of the AMD Radeon R4 Graphics and the larger 500GB HDD, it’s a good multimedia machine. However, because the HDD is mechanical, it will slow down the overall speed of your laptop, so program loading and boot times will be slower. The A6-7310 Quad-Core is a respectable processor, and the 4GB of RAM will allow you to multitask reasonably well, though heavy multitasking will quickly push the RAM to its limits.

The 15.6-inch LED display has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, which is standard for budget laptops; however, every now and then, a laptop in this price range with a 1080p display, such as the HP Pavilion dv5000, comes along. Acer Chromebook CB3-431-C5FM 14-inchBe aware that some customers have complained about quality control after receiving faulty laptops, with some receiving faulty DVD drives and faulty keys that triggered a variety of commands when pressed. .. Be prepared to bring your power cable with you because the battery life is only 3 hours.

Pros

  • Good day-to-day tasks handling
  • Easy to setup and use

Lenovo 110-15 15.6-inch laptop It has a lower-tier A6-7310 Quad-Core processor and 4GB of RAM, which perform admirably for basic tasks, but heavy multitaskers and those who need to run resource-intensive applications should look elsewhere. The Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15 15.6-inch, despite being labeled as a “High Performance” laptop on Amazon.com, is actually more suited for basic use than power use.

The 15.6-inch LED display has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, which means it is only 720p, but most people seem to like it. It has a sufficient amount of storage space of 500GB, but the mechanical hard drive will slow down boot times and application loading times when compared to modern SSDs. The battery life is poor to say the least, lasting only about 3 hours, requiring you to carry a power cable with you if you plan to use it outside of your home or office. It’s good for multimedia tasks like video streaming, photo viewing (and possibly some basic photo editing), and word processing, and the AMD Radeon R4 Graphics will even let it play some older classics fairly well.

Pros

  • Good for basic use
  • Decent design
  • Value
  • Plenty of storage space

Cons

  • 3 hour battery life
  • Slow hard drive
  • Not ideal for power users

Specs

  • 15.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixels
    (IPS)
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 8.5 hours battery life
  • 4.8 lbs

Summary & Score

The Lenovo 110-15 15.6-inch will meet all of your needs if you’re on a budget and want a laptop that gets the basics right. However, because of the three-hour battery life, it will almost always need to be plugged in.

Laptops Under $300 – Honorable Mentions

ASUS VivoBook E403NA-US04 14-inch

ASUS VivoBook E403NA-US04 14-inch laptop

Its weight is 3.18 pounds, and its thickness is only 0.7 inches. Although ASUS can brag about the Full-HD display, it is a TN panel that is rather unimpressive: the colors are washed out, the viewing angles are average, and it is quite dim. In a market dominated by Chromebooks at this price point, we’re glad to see an affordable portable Windows laptop. It has a good keyboard and touchpad, but Laptop Mag claims that the touchpad is a little slippery. The ASUS E403NA has a brushed-aluminum lid, which is common on more expensive laptops, and a solid-plastic keyboard deck.

The laptop performs as expected for a budget laptop. It’s sluggish, but it does a good job with the most important tasks. According to ASUS, it has an all-day battery life of around 12 hours (if used moderately), so you can take your laptop with you wherever you go. You’ll be able to edit documents in Word or Google Docs, send emails, watch movies, look at photos, and browse the Internet with relative ease, but you won’t be able to multitask. The 64GB eMMC drive is fast, but it won’t hold many large files. However, cloud storage services like Google Drive aren’t just for Chromebooks, so take advantage of it. They do go on to say, however, that it responds well to multi-touch gestures. It is equipped with an Intel Celeron N3350 processor and 4GB of RAM.

Pros

  • Sharp, Full-HD display
  • Great construction
  • Aesthetically pleasing
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Sluggish performance
  • Limited storage space
  • Display isn’t very bright

Specs

  • 14 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels
    (TN)
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 12 hours battery life
  • 3.3 lbs

Summary & Score

The ASUS VivoBook E403NA-US04 14-inch laptop is well-built, has a bright (but dim) 1080p display, and has enough battery life to last all day. This is the ideal laptop for those looking for a laptop that can handle the essentials.
