These are high-end laptops, and the crown jewel of Apple’s luxury laptop lineup. That means they don’t lose a lot of their value over time, but recent price drops have shown us that MacBook Pro deals aren’t as uncommon as they used to be. Finding truly low-cost MacBook Pro deals can be difficult.

MacBook Pro prices start out fairly high, leaving plenty of room for retailers to offer discounts during sales periods. However, demand for these machines is also high, which means there will be fewer cheap MacBook Pro deals throughout the rest of the year.

That’s not to say a discount isn’t available; in fact, the latest M1 MacBook Pros have been on sale almost continuously since their release.

You want the best, but there’s no reason to pay more for it than you have to. If you want to save money, look into the other non-Pro options.

The best deals on the 13-inch MacBook Pro M1 (2020).

The most powerful 13-inch MacBook Pro available

CPU: Apple M1 chip – 8 cores | Graphics: 8 core GPU | RAM: 8GB – 16GB | Screen: 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, 13-inch Display with a Retina resolution | Dimensions (H x W x D): The dimensions are 11.97 x 8.36 x 0.61 inches.

Powerful new M1 chip
Fan cooling will make for better performance
17 hours battery life
Higher price tag

The new M1 MacBook Pro provides a significant boost in processing power while remaining in the same price range as the previous 2020 13-inch Intel model. However, now that this beast is out in the wild, you might find MacBook Pro deals focusing on the older model. Overall, it’s a better deal, especially considering how frequently MacBook Pro prices match.

We’ve already seen some unexpected price drops on Black Friday, just weeks after the latest MacBook Pro was released, so the new model may be more affordable than you think. As a result, you’ll have to choose between a potentially lower price point with the previous generation and a significant performance boost with Apple’s own chip. Plus, as we approach 2021, cheap MacBook Pro deals will be available on these models, making things even more affordable.

From the outside, things look pretty similar, but you’re dealing with a serious powerful machine here, at a price that even manages to undercut other high-end ultrabooks in terms of value. Even when running legacy apps designed for previous Intel machines, the new M1 hardware provides a significant performance boost. Apple’s promise of a revolutionary experience is certainly fulfilled with the new MacBook.

The best 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro deals

The last Intel release

CPU: 8th – 10th generation Intel Core i5 – i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics | RAM: 8GB – 32GB | Screen: 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, 13-inch Display with a Retina resolution | Dimensions (H x W x D): The dimensions are 11.97 x 8.36 x 0.61 inches.

More starter storage
New keyboard
8th generation processors in entry level

However, with faster RAM, double the storage, and a better keyboard all for the same price as the previous year’s installment, the trade-off may be worthwhile. As a result, entry-level buyers will be working with an older CPU that may not be able to handle the latest heavy-duty programs. Because the 13-inch MacBook Pro is the model of choice for most creative professionals due to its balance of power and affordability, it’s understandable that the baseline model’s use of an 8th generation Intel processor has already caused some annoyance.

However, if you’re willing to spend some money, you can upgrade the 13-inch MacBook Pro to the latest 10th generation Intel processors and up to 4TB of SSD storage, bringing it back to the small powerhouse that many have enjoyed in previous iterations.

We’ve already seen some cheap MacBook Pro deals for the 2020 release, and more are sure to follow as the M1 model matures throughout the year, so there’s plenty of opportunity to save money.

The best 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro deals

A MacBook that is a beast, with a launch price to match.

CPU: 9th-generation 6-core – 8-core processors Intel Core i7 – i9 processors | Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 630, AMD Radeon Pro 5300M – 5500M | RAM: 16GB – 64GB | Screen: 16-inch, 3072 x 1920 Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): 1.62 x 35.79 x 24.59cm

Incredible display specifications
Massive RAM and SSD configurations
Apple’s most powerful MacBook yet
Painfully expensive
Reduced portability

The 2019 MacBook Pro 16-inch was released to replace the 15-inch model from earlier this year, and it does far more than just extend the display by a few centimeters. Nonetheless, even in its most basic configuration (the little 6-core 9th gen i9 processor that could), this brand new MacBook is capable of blisteringly fast speeds. While it’s exciting that it’s possible, an 8-core 9th generation i9 processor with 64GB of RAM and an 8TB SSD must feel nice, and while it’s exciting that it’s possible, that’s a spec that’ll cost you around $5,800.

While the MacBook Pro’s battery allows for on-the-go work, it weighs in at a hefty 2kg, and with that larger screen, you might think twice about carrying it around in a backpack all day. Because there’s a lot going on inside, the 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro has the largest battery capacity of any MacBook ever released, with up to 11 hours of wireless use. The specs are impressive, but a larger 16-inch chassis with an improved keyboard and a brighter, more intelligent Retina display keeps everything in place.

There are also discounts of $300 to $400 off the MSRP on MacBook Pros, so there are bargains to be had if you’re interested. While the most powerful configurations are out of reach for most people, you might be able to scrape together enough spare change to invest in one of the more realistic models. This isn’t a cheap MacBook Pro, but it is a remarkable piece of laptop engineering.

The best 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro deals

Slightly cheaper than the 16-inch

CPU: 9th-generation Intel Core i7 – i9 | Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 630, AMD Radeon Pro 555X – 560X | RAM: 16GB – 32GB | Screen: Retina display with a resolution of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels on a 15.4-inch display | Dimensions (H x W x D): 34.93 x 24.07 x 1.55cm

New 9th-gen i7/i9 processors
Sky-high configurations available
Still fairly expensive
Lacks older ports

The 15-inch 2019 MacBook Pro isn’t currently on sale at Apple, but it’s still available at a few retailers, particularly in the United States. The price reflects a lower offer than the later 16-inch model, but you’re getting a lot of power for your money.

Even the cheapest Apple Store model has a 6-core i7 processor, 256GB SSD, and 16GB of RAM. The 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro 2019 can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and an 8-core 9th-generation i9 processor if you have the cash.

If you work in the creative arts, digital design, or engineering, you might find that Apple’s latest is more than capable of handling the demands of today’s apps and programs. Plus, you’ll save a little money over the more expensive 16-inch model, which is typically much more expensive even during cheap MacBook Pro sales.

The best 2019 13-inch MacBook Pro deals

A cheap mid-range MacBook Pro

CPU: 8th generation i5-i7 | Graphics: Radeon Pro 555X – Pro Vega 20 | RAM: 8 – 16GB | Screen: 13.3-inch, 2560 x 1600 Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): 34.92 x 24.07 x 1.55cm

Mid-range specs for a good price
Touchbar and Retina display
Fairly up to date components

That means there will almost certainly be some good MacBook Pro deals on traditionally more expensive configurations, though you may have to hunt for them. Prices have dropped nicely now that we’ve advanced two generations, but stock levels are suffering as retailers gradually reduce their shelf space for such an old model. In 2021, the 13-inch 2019 MacBook Pro is one of the most affordable ways for entry-level buyers to get their hands on a high-end laptop.

This isn’t a cheap MacBook Pro, but you’ll get more powerful specs at a price point that newer devices can’t match.

The cheapest 2018 13-inch MacBook Pro prices

For a little less, you can get a little older storage unit with a lot of space.

CPU: Quad-core Intel Core i5 – i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 | RAM: 8GB – 16GB | Screen: IPS, 13.3-inch (2,560 x 1,600) | Storage: 128GB – 2TB PCIe 3.0 SSD | Touch Bar: Yes (on most models)

Performance upgrade
True Tone display
Quieter keyboard

It’s now a good option if you want a lot of storage for a low price, as it still includes the Touch Bar and has a lot of improvements over the older models. Although the screen resolution is the same as the excellent Retina display, True Tone technology is still present, which detects ambient lighting in the room or outdoors and adjusts the screen brightness for the best possible picture. In its day, the 2018 version of the Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch was the best yet.

Larger RAM options are available than in previous models, making this a potential bargain for creatives. The keyboard is quieter and less ‘clicky’ than previous models, and you can still get 8th generation processors, which aren’t too old to be worth the money.

It’s a little harder to come across this model in particularly cheap MacBook Pro deals, but you can find some great deals on refurbished models at Amazon and Newegg.

Can you buy a cheap MacBook Pro?

A low-cost MacBook Pro is relative; these computers aren’t designed for bargain hunters. If you shop at the right time or are willing to forego enough new features, you can find a cheap MacBook Pro for under $1,000, whether it’s a reduced entry-level current-gen laptop or an older but refurbished model. However, with MacBook Pro deals dropping more and more money off these high-end laptops each year, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find a discounted model these days.

Is the Macbook Pro price worth it?

Apple’s range of lightweight super computers can appear inaccessible due to a price point that can make everyday laptop users wary. The Macbook Pro is designed with power users in mind. If you’re looking for a laptop that can handle anything and will continue to be able to handle anything in the future, this is the laptop for you.

So, if you’re a creative or need to run high-performance apps and complex workflows, the Macbook Pro is well worth the money. You might be better off elsewhere if you want to check your emails and watch Netflix. While the Macbook Pro has a high up-front cost, it’s a long-term investment that will outlast other laptops that are only slightly less expensive.

How to Get a Good Deal on a MacBook Pro Trade-In

While they can save you a lot of money and are more convenient, you can often get a lot more money for your old MacBook by selling it yourself. This is due to the fact that once on the market, these high-end computers rarely lose their value. There are benefits and drawbacks to using a MacBook Pro trade-in program to save money on a new computer.

If you simply want to get the best deal on a cheap MacBook Pro, your best bet is to shop around. Go straight to Apple for a trade-in assessment.

MacBook Pro student discount: what offers are available?

Offers vary by country, but students, teachers, and parents in the United States can save $100 on a MacBook Pro laptop, while students in the United Kingdom can save 10% on Apple products with a valid student ID. When you combine this with Apple’s (albeit infrequent) MacBook Pro sales, you’re looking at a significant savings. Student discounts on the MacBook Pro can help you save money on your new laptop.
