The Best Prime Day Deals From Best Buy

When it comes to scoring good deals on electronics during Prime Day, Best Buy might not be the first store that comes to mind—but every year during the two-day deals event, the tech retailer offers discounts that match (and in some cases beat) Amazon’s pricing. This year, whether you’re looking to upgrade your smartphone or score a new pair of wireless headphones, you’ll most likely find what you need at Best Buy’s Bigger Deal Savings Event, which runs through June 22.

Sorting through the discounts to figure out what is and isn’t a worthwhile price drop, though, can be time-consuming and frustrating. That’s why we’ve done the sorting for you. Here are the best deals we’ve found from Best Buy (and how to make the most of shopping at the tech retailer during Prime Day).

Best Buy TV deals

A TV sits on an entertainment center.

Best Buy’s Prime Day offerings could provide some of the top opportunities to save on Wirecutter’s TV picks. For starters, Best Buy sells nearly all of our TV picks. So, depending on what you’re looking for, you may see great sales for the TCL 5-Series (one of our budget 4K picks) or the Sony X950. Inevitably, most of the TV sales during Prime Day will be on lower-end models like Best Buy’s own Insignia brand and the TCL 3-Series and 4-Series. But we do see the occasional discount on mid-range and even high-end models we recommend, so we’ll be tracking TV sales to highlight deals on our picks if they arise.

Samsung The Frame 65-Inch LCD TV

Deal price: $1600; street price: $2000
Read our review of the best TVs that think outside the box.

If you’re looking for a TV with a less invasive, more decor-friendly design, we recommend Samsung’s The Frame. This elegant LCD TV sits perfectly flush against the wall, just as a framed piece of art would. When not in use, the TV’s smart screensaver can display photos or art, and you can purchase more pieces from the online Samsung art store. This 2021 model is 4K capable and has Alexa built-in. Although still expensive, the 65-inch model is down to a new low price of $1600.

Vizio OLED55-H1 55-Inch TV

Deal price: $1000; street price: $1200
Read our review of the best OLED TV.

Vizio OLED65-H1 4K TV

Deal price: $1500; street price: $1750
Read our review of the best OLED TV.

If you’re looking for a great OLED TV but don’t want to spend quite as much as our top pick, check out the Vizio 4K OLED TV-H1 Series. Our budget pick isn’t as bright or feature-packed as our top pick, but it’s a great TV that offers impressive picture quality for the price. It supports most HDR formats (like Dolby Vision, HLG, HDR10, and HDR10+), has a 120 Hz refresh rate, and four HDMI inputs (two of which are HDMI 2.1-compatible). Normally averaging around $1200, right now the 55-inch model is back down to $1000. The 65″ model is down to $1500 from $1750.

Best Buy smart-home deals

A Eufy smart camera sits against a red background.

Best Buy offers a wider array of smart-home speakers and smart displays than Amazon, Walmart, or Target. Options from Amazon’s entire line of Alexa speakers and smart displays are available. Similarly, all options from the Google Assistant–based line of Nest Google smart speakers and smart displays are available at Best Buy and not at Amazon. So for those who prefer to shout at Google instead of Alexa, look to the yellow-tagged electronics retailer as a likely source. Our smart-plug picks and other smart options have also historically seen sales from Best Buy during Prime Day.

Google Nest Audio Smart Speaker

Deal price: $75; street price: $100
Read our review of the best Google Home voice-controlled speaker.

An upcoming pick from our guide to the best Google Home speakers, the Nest Audio smart speaker is an updated version of our current top pick. More affordable and better sounding than the original, the Nest Audio provides a louder and more bass-filled audio experience. If you own more than one, two separate speakers can be configured together as a stereo pair or positioned throughout the home for a multi-room music system. Our guide will be updated soon to reflect the Nest Audio as a pick. At $75, this is a new low for a single Nest speaker, though we have seen better prices per speaker for bundles of two.

Google Nest Hello Doorbell Camera

Deal price: $150; street price: $230
Read our review of the best smart doorbell camera.

Typically going for around $200, the Nest Hello is our upgrade smart doorbell camera pick that offers around-the-clock video recording as well as AI-powered motion detection and facial recognition. It’s probably overkill for someone just looking to keep an eye on their door, but it’s a great option for those with advanced security needs. Do note that a Nest Aware subscription, which is essential for video recording, costs $6 a month to capture motion events and store them for 30 days and $12 per month to store events for 60 days or 24/7 recording for 10 days—so the operating costs are higher than most other doorbell cameras we tested.

Google Nest Learning Thermostat

Deal price: $200; street price: $250
Read our review of the best smart thermostat.

Good news everyone: the top pick in our guide to the best smart thermostats is back down to $200—just in time for your summer air-conditioning needs. The Google Nest takes the guesswork out of your home’s cooling and heating by adjusting to your schedule, balancing temperatures according to your preferences, and operating smoothly even when nobody’s home. It’s also easy to install and offers sleek finishes and an energy-efficient design. Though we may see deeper discounts later in the year, this deal is still a decent chance to snag our top pick on sale.

We are currently searching for the best deals on Wirecutter picks in this category and will add them here if we find them!

Best Buy tech deals

A Lenovo alarm clock sits on an orange background.

Best Buy is a great source of deals on tech such as headphones and Bluetooth speakers during events like Prime Day. Tablets from Apple, Samsung, and Amazon will likely also see nice deals—we expect the 8th-gen iPad to see its best prices of 2021 and perhaps even match Black Friday 2020 pricing of $280 for the 32 GB version. Prime Day has historically been a good source of audio deals, so keep an eye out for deals on soundbars and multiroom wireless speaker systems as well. We could see the first notable deals on our top media streamer pick, the Google Chromecast with Google TV. Or, in the absence of price drops on the streamer itself, we could see bundle deals with gift cards or the YouTube TV service.

DJI Mavic 2 Zoom

Deal price: $1100; street price: $1350
Read our review of the best drones for photos and video.

A great choice for aerial photographers and videographers who need to work from a distance, the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom is down to $1100. While it looks and flies the same as the Mavic 2 Pro, it trades out the Hasselblad camera in favor of a different camera that can zoom two times optically and two times digitally. With the increased zoom, you do lose out on some quality, only able to shoot in 1080p when zoomed instead of 4K.

Logitech G502 Hero Wired Gaming Mouse

Deal price: $34; street price: $50
Read our review of the best gaming mouse.

Update: Now down to $34 with free My Best Buy membership.
Well-built and reasonably priced, our top wired option offers a variety of grip styles that is comfortable for most hand sizes. With a collection of responsive buttons, RGB lights, and customizable weights, the G502 lets you tweak the mouse to make it your own. Though most found this option enjoyable to use, some testers with smaller hands discovered that the G502’s many buttons could make it difficult to find a comfortable grip.

Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro 12.9‑inch

Deal price: $200; street price: $300
Read our review of the best iPad Pro keyboard cases.

If you’re looking to turn your iPad into a laptop, a keyboard case is the perfect accessory. Apple’s Magic Keyboard is a former upgrade pick (previous gen) from our guide, and the larger 12.9-inch size is currently down to $200—matching the best price we’ve seen. While the Magic Keyboard is an excellent accessory, it’s fairly expensive and heavier than the competition. That said, if you intend to use the iPad Pro in place of a laptop, this option provides fantastic keys and a handy trackpad that most keyboard cases lack.

Fitbit Charge 4

Deal price: $100; street price: $120
Read our review of the best fitness trackers.

A wearable fitness tracker can help monitor your daily activity and assist you in getting the most out of your workouts. Our top pick, the Fitbit Charge 4, is a reliable model that offers extra features we appreciate, like an onboard GPS and the ability to measure time spent in specific heart-rate zones during an activity. Well designed and simple to use, this long-lasting Fitbit is overall the best option for most people. At $100, it’s back to the second best price we’ve seen for it, with the best coming via a members only warehouse club.

Apple iPad Air (4th Gen, 10.9-inch, 64 GB)

Deal price: $520; street price: $600
Read our review of the best the best pro tablet.

If you’re looking to add a tablet to your tech repertoire, the 64 GB iPad Air is down to $520, matching the lowest price we’ve seen. Featuring a crisp screen, long battery life, and user-friendly interface, this versatile option lets you easily take your work on the go. While we like the lightweight design and portability of the iPad Air for creative, tablet-centric tasks, if you’re hoping to do more serious web development and coding, a laptop might be a better bet.

Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS, 44 mm)

Deal price: $360; street price: $400

Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS, 40 mm)

Deal price: $330; street price: $380
Read our review of the best smartwatch for iPhone owners.

If you’re tired of missing important notifications and don’t want to be constantly reaching for your phone, consider the Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS, 40mm and 44mm sizes), available in black, white, and red. Nearly identical to the Apple Watch SE, the Series 6 boasts several bonus features, including an always-on display, slightly faster performance and charging capabilities, and more health features (such as blood oxygen monitoring and heart rhythm measurement). If you think these extras are worth the higher price tag, this is a nice opportunity to snap up our upgrade smartwatch pick for iPhone users.

Lenovo Smart Clock Essential (Grey)

Deal price: $30; street price: $50
Read our review of the best alarm clocks.

Using your phone to wake you up in the morning seems fairly innocuous, but an alarm clock can be a healthy upgrade to a distraction-free bedroom. Our “slightly smarter alarm clock” pick, the Lenovo is an affordable smart alarm clock that won’t take up much space on your nightstand. Offering the time, date, and weather info at a glance, the Lenovo is perfect for anyone wanting a bit more than a classic analogue option. With a hidden, simplified button system, the primary way to control the Lenovo is by speaking to the built in Google Assistant. The two microphones are very sensitive and are able to discern commands, even with hushed tones during the evening. At $30 with store pickup, this is a solid deal for anyone looking for a compact digital alarm clock.

Razer Basilisk Ultimate Wireless Gaming Mouse with Charging Dock

Deal price: $84; street price: $120
Read our review of the best gaming mouse.

In many ways, the Razer Basilisk Ultimate is nearly identical to our top gaming mouse pick (e.g. size, shape, switches, etc.). However, the Ultimate excels in comfort and wireless functionality, securing its spot as a worthy upgrade pick. It’s just as fast and responsive as most wired options, and it even has a decent battery life as well. It’s seen a drop in street price this year, but this deal is a nice opportunity to save on a wireless upgrade, as well as getting the fancy and convenient charging dock.

Logitech G203 Lightsync Gaming Mouse (Black)

Deal price: $20; street price: $30
Read our review of the best gaming mouse.

Though this isn’t the lowest price we’ve seen, this deal is still a solid chance to save on our budget gaming mouse pick if you opt for free curbside pickup from Best Buy. While it’s smaller than our other picks and features less buttons, the G203 does have an accurate sensor and comes with ample customization options. It’s by far the best gaming mouse in this price range.

Logitech G305 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse

Deal price: $27; street price: $50
Read our review of the best gaming mouse.

If you’re looking for a small wireless gaming mouse and favor a claw grip, this is a good opportunity to save on a former budget pick. Similar in size, shape, and button placement to our current budget pick, the Logitech G305 Lightspeed is a solid alternative if you want to go wireless. Unlike some of our other picks, this mouse can only connect via USB dongle. While it’s better for gaming (due to the lower latency), it’s not as convenient without a Bluetooth option. There is currently a small shipping delay on this product.

Razer Basilisk Ultimate Wireless Gaming Mouse

Deal price: $72; street price: $120
Read our review of the best gaming mouse.

Down to the lowest price we’ve seen, our upgrade gaming mouse pick, the Razer Basilisk Ultimate, is available for $80. This is a great opportunity to save if you like the convenience of a wireless mouse, but want the responsive buttons, RGB lights, and customizable weights offered by our wired runner-up pick (which is also on sale).

Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed Gaming Mouse

Deal price: $32; street price: $46
Read our review of the best gaming mouse.

This deal is a new low price for our cheaper wireless gaming mouse pick, the Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed. Nearly identical in shape to its wired Basilisk cousin, the Hyperspeed is comfortable, accurate, and responsive. That said, it sacrifices a few buttons and features that we like, such as a thumb clutch, customizable scroll wheel, and lighting options.

HyperX Alloy Origins Core Gaming Keyboard

Deal price: $65; street price: $80
Read our review of the best mechanical keyboards.

If you’re looking for a great gaming keyboard, we recommend the HyperX Alloy Origins Core. It offers RGB backlighting, macro support, and other gaming-specific features. It also has clicky switches and a removable USB-C cable and a minimalist design. Though the Alloy fell short when compared against our other keyboard picks, it has better build quality and software than the other gaming keyboards we tested.

TP-Link Archer AX90 Wi-Fi Router

Deal price: $290; street price: $330
Read our review of the best Wi-Fi router.

The TP-Link Archer AX90 Wi-Fi Router stands out in a crowd. It’s very large with eight permanently attached antennas that—alongside tri-band radios—helped it top all of our performance test charts. It also has a 2.5 GbE port and its radio configuration will help you connect additional family phones and smart devices. That said, the AX90 has fewer Ethernet ports than our upgrade pick and charges $6 monthly or $55 annual subscription for advanced security and parental controls.

Western Digital My Passport SSD (1TB)

Deal price: $130; street price: $160
Read our review of the best portable SSD.

Portable SSDs are great for people who regularly transfer files between computers and are looking for something both fast and compact. With data transfers up to 10 GBps, the My Passport offers blistering fast speed in a durable and pocketable size. If you accidentally drop the drive and the shock resistant design fails you, WD also offers a lengthy five-year warranty on this device (the longest of any drive we found).

Epson Home Cinema 3800 Living Room Projector

Deal price: $1400; street price: $1600
Read our review of the best home projector for a living room.

Offering high brightness with accurate color, the Epson Home Cinema 3800 delivers great contrast and a clear step up in picture quality over budget 1080p projectors. Our top pick also includes good setup tools to fit in a variety of rooms.

Best Buy smartphone deals

A person holds a smartphone up.

Like Target and Walmart, Best Buy tends to offer deals only on high-end smartphones that are accompanied by a service plan. Best Buy distinguishes itself from those other retailers, though, in the deals it offers for unlocked Android phones. This Prime Day, those deals are likely to include our upgrade Android phone pick, the Samsung Galaxy S21. Be aware that Best Buy’s prices online typically include a $50 activation discount, so if you want a truly unlocked device, you’ll pay $50 more.

We are currently searching for the best deals on Wirecutter picks in this category and will add them here if we find them!

Best Buy laptop deals

A laptop sits on a neutral background.

Best Buy also typically carries the full array of Wirecutter’s Macbook and Windows Ultrabook picks. If MacBook discounts are available during Prime Day, Best Buy is often the source. The electronics giant also offers our Chromebook picks. Last year, Chromebooks didn’t see quite as many deals as we hoped for, thanks to pandemic-related stock shortages. But most of our current picks have healthier stock supplies—and we’re more likely to see deals on them as a result.

Google Pixelbook Go Chromebook (Intel Core M3 Processor, 8 GB RAM, 64 GB SSD)

Deal price: $600; street price: $650
Read our review of the best chromebook.

If you’re willing to pay more for a smaller, lighter, and faster Chromebook with longer battery life, get the Google Pixelbook Go. Our upgrade pick for the best Chromebook, this laptop is for those people who frequently have dozens of tabs open, run multiple Android apps, or use Linux on their Chromebook. In those cases, the extra memory is worth the extra money—plus, the Pixelbook Go has the best webcam of all the Chromebooks we tested. Although this $50 drop isn’t a large one, this deal is a new low price.

Apple MacBook Air (2020, M1, 256 GB SSD)

Deal price: $900; street price: $1000
Read our review of the best Macbooks.

If you’re looking for a great MacBook, you can’t go wrong with the new Apple MacBook Air (2020, M1). This well-balanced MacBook is specced with an Eight-core Apple M1 CPU processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD. Between its snappy performance, comfortable keyboard, and decent storage space, we think the Air is the best all-around option for most people. The only real downside we’ve noted is that some Mac apps have yet to be optimized for the new M1 chip, so you may notice some lag until they’re updated.

Best Buy kitchen deals

Anova Precision Cooker Nano Sous Vide Machine

Deal price: $100; street price: $129
Read our review of the best sous vide machine and gear.

The Anova Precision Cooker Nano, our top sous vide machine pick, is the best bet for most home cooks because of its accuracy, relatively small size, and ability to work with a huge range of containers. The quiet, user-friendly Anova also has an intuitive touchscreen interface and a beep alert when the water comes to temperature. We’ll likely see a slightly better drop around Prime Day, but this deal is still a solid discount if you can’t wait.

Best Buy health and grooming deals

Panasonic Electric Body Hair Trimmer and Groomer ER-GK60-S

Deal price: $40; street price: $60
Read our review of the best pubic hair trimmer.

The runner-up pick in our guide to the best pubic hair trimmer, our testers liked the vertical orientation of the Panasonic, which coupled with the V-shaped head made for a very maneuverable tool that could easily navigate the bends and folds of your body. A more powerful option than our top pick, this is a no-brainer at this price if you’re in the market for a versatile, waterproof, and easy-to-maneuver trimmer.

Tips for shopping Best Buy Prime Day deals

Wirecutter usually finds that Amazon matches Best Buy electronics sales as they arise (if Amazon carries the item in question). But we also work to provide our readers with Best Buy deals because—aside from providing variety and a non-Amazon option—Best Buy offers deals for items that Amazon simply doesn’t carry, such as the aforementioned Google ecosystem smart speakers. Also, Best Buy provides the option of store and curbside pickup. Keep an eye on Best Buy’s Deal of the Day and Top Deals section during an event like Prime Day. And check its My Best Buy Member offers and student discounts (if applicable).

Take advantage of Best Buy’s price-matching policy

Whether you’re shopping the Best Buy aisles in person or virtually, keep an eye on competing sites: Best Buy will price-match local retail competitors (like Target and Walmart), as well as any items sold by Amazon, Crutchfield.com, Dell.com, HP.com, and TigerDirect.com. Best Buy also matches pricing on its own website, so it might be advantageous to download the Best Buy app to your phone if you plan to shop in-store—that way, you can scan and compare prices as you shop.

To get a price-match, first make sure the Best Buy item is identical to the competitor’s, down to the model number and color. If you’re in-store, show an employee proof of the lower price. If you’re shopping online, use the Best Buy Chat feature to connect with an employee, or call 1-888-BEST-BUY to request a price-match.

Sign up for a My Best Buy membership for access to more deals

My Best Buy is a membership program that any Best Buy shopper can join for free. Members will often get early access to Best Buy’s sales and exclusive member-only deals. They also get some other nice perks, like free shipping with no minimum-purchase requirements and the opportunity to earn points for every dollar spent (which can then be redeemed as a reward certificate to spend at the store).

Best Buy also offers two other forms of My Best Buy, which are also free: My Best Buy Elite and My Best Buy Elite Plus. To qualify for My Best Buy Elite, you’ll have to spend $1,500 or more during the calendar year; to be eligible for My Best Buy Elite Plus, you’ll have to spend $3,500 or more. Though this is not so helpful for casual Best Buy shoppers, those who do meet the minimum will get extra perks, like a longer return window (the standard is 15 days, and applies to My Best Buy members) and the ability to earn more points per purchase.

What about Best Buy Beta?

In early April, Best Buy announced the limited rollout of Best Buy Beta, its new paid membership. As of now, the $200 yearly membership (which has to be purchased in-store) is limited to shoppers in Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Membership perks include:

Though this is not widely available just yet, we plan to keep an eye on the new membership program to assess whether we think it’s worth the price.

Get your purchases the same day from Best Buy

Though Amazon offers same-day shipping for some items, all Best Buy purchases can be collected the same day you’ve virtually swiped your credit card. All you’ll have to do is select store pickup and drive to your local Best Buy. If you prefer to limit contact with others, Best Buy is also still offering contactless curbside service at most locations across the country.

Keep an eye out for deals for students

Best Buy often offers student-specific deals on laptops and Chromebooks, usually knocking 10% or more off the price for qualifying shoppers. Previously, you needed to use an academic email address ending in .edu to claim the deals. But to reap the savings now, Best Buy requires only that you identify yourself as a student. To take advantage of this discount, you’ll need to register for a (free) My Best Buy account and sign up for student deals—those discounts will then populate on the Member Offers page of your My Best Buy portal.

Save on Apple gear

Notoriously, Apple itself rarely offers deals on its various tech products; instead, the company usually offers gift cards with purchases during big deals events like Black Friday and Cyber Week. But just because Apple doesn’t offer deals, that doesn’t mean you won’t see good ones on Apple tech. Retailers carrying that gear (like Best Buy) usually mark down Apple products from time to time.

If you’re on the hunt for cheap(er) Apple gear, Best Buy should be your first stop. The store has everything from MacBooks and iPads to Apple Watches and iPhones, and it frequently offers deals on older tech.

Look for good deals on bundled items

Best Buy often offers nice discounts on bundled smart-home items, many of which are Wirecutter picks. In the past, we’ve seen deals on the Amazon Echo Show 5 bundled with an Echo Studio, and we have seen 2-for-1 bundles on the Amazon Show 8. Both the Show 5 and Show 8 have been updated as of May 2021, so we could see a whole new set of bundles that include Amazon’s more recent offerings.
